The Sexual Health Education and Empowerment Council (a.k.a SHEEC) is a student-run council for the promotion of sexual health and wellness on Brown’s campus. It was created during the academic year 08-09 as a way to facilitate communication and cooperation among sexuality groups at Brown, as well as a way to bring in more programming centered on sexual health, pleasure, and empowerment to Brown students.
Currently, SHEEC stands on its own–separate from the groups it brings together–while still maintaining strong ties to those groups and keeping a level of collaboration. Due to this structure, institutions like Sex Week are sustainable staples of the Brown University community and have a centralized group to take care of them.
